What are the benefits of a Pool Cover to the owner?
Reduction in Evaporation – The average pool in Australia will lose its entire contents of water through evaporation every year, this amount can rise to as much as 150% of the pool’s contents, depending on weather conditions.
By adding a pool cover to the surface of the water you are creating a physical barrier to water evaporation – almost like a lid on a pot on a stove. We can reduce the amount of evaporation by not allowing the water to leave the pool during the hottest part of the year or by preventing the wind whisking the water molecules off the pool surface.
Reduction in Chemical Loss – By reducing the amount of water evaporation we reduce the amount of chemical-laden water leaving the pool. Therefore, those chemicals do not have to be replaced. It is estimated a 50% reduction in chemical used annually
Increase in Water Temperature – A CSIRO Report (CSIRO Division of Mechanical Engineering Technical Report No 12/1/3,, 1977) concluded that a “transparent” pool cover could add as much as 7-8 Degrees Celsius. This increase in temperature could add several weeks to either end of the Swimming Season. A transparent cover like the Suncap material does this by allowing light to directly pass through the material and heat the water.

beneficial if you have an artificial source of heat entering the pool eg. Solar

Reduction in Leaf and
Debris – A properly fitted pool cover will prevent the vast majority of leaves
and other debris from entering the pool surface. It is suggested to cut a
tongue or flap into the skimmer box to allow for easier removal of debris off
the top of the cover. Your Swimming Pool
Cleaner or Robotic Pool Cleaner will work very effectively underneath the Solar
Blanket and will not effect the cleaners operation. Tip: With a pool Cover on
the pool, stop using a Suction Cleaner and use a Robotic Pool Cleaner. By not
using a Suction Cleaner you will remove the vacuum plate from the skimmer box
and allow the pool’s filtration to be far more effective and put less strain on
the pool pump.
Keep out ducks – By not allowing access to the pool water you are denying the duck the reason for being near your pool – a clear body of water they can swim, defecate and roost in without fear of predators.
